Stone Fort Yearbook: Distribution Week

Stephen F. Austin State University’s 2017 Stone Fort Yearbook will be distributed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, May 1 through Friday, May 5, at the Baker Pattillo Student Center plaza. Yearbooks will only be distributed during the university-observed dead week, which is the week before finals that students dedicate to studying and preparing for their tests. Individual books that are not picked up during this week will be mailed out over the summer months.

A total of 1,500 copies of the Stone Fort will be delivered to campus on Friday, April 28. Yearbooks are sold year-round and can be purchased through the Student Publications Office, located on the second floor of the BPSC, room 2.308.

2017 Theme

The 2017 Stone Fort theme is “We Are the SFA Way.” The SFA Way is a five-principle standard that the university’s students, alumni, faculty and staff members use daily to strive for personal excellence in everything. As the theme of the book, “We Are the SFA Way” accurately represents the standards and atmosphere of the university community. The following principles were assigned to each section of the yearbook to represent this concept:

  • Respect: designated to the student life section to describe the character of our students at SFA.
  • Caring: reflects the organizations section to describe the quality of clubs and organizations SFA offers.
  • Responsible: upheld by the academics section to portray the expectations of the university’s advanced academia.
  • United: designated to show that SFA is united, not only in academics, but in school spirit and athletics, as well.
  • People of Integrity: defines the scholar’s section to emphasize the integrity of our student body.

Placing “We Are” before each of these principles helps to embody everything about SFA, the book and the student body as a whole.

About the Book

The 2017 Stone Fort has 352 pages, which were all designed by section editors on the Stone Fort Yearbook staff and printed by Balfour Publishing Company, located in Dallas. The book was completed by online submissions and designed using InDesign, a layout and design program offered by Adobe. The copy was written and photos were taken by SFA’s Student Publications Department’s Stone Fort section editors and staff members of The Pine Log Newspaper. In addition, photographs were also provided by Hardy Meredith, university photographer. Student portraits were taken by student employees from the University ID office and developed through the University Police Department.

The Stone Fort is completely student-produced by a staff of four individuals under the direction of the editor-in-chief. Information, photographs, descriptions, names, spellings and overall content was provided and approved by representatives of the university, including advisers, presidents of organizations, student leaders and individuals within the university community.

Before distribution, the Stone Fort is subject to preliminary review by Rachel Clark, adviser of the Stone Fort Yearbook and coordinator of student publications, and subsequent review by Amy Roquemore, director of student publications and divisional media.

The five-person staff worked daily from Aug. 30, 2016 to Feb. 28, 2017, to ensure the publication showcases the best of the 2016-17 academic year, creating a lifetime of memories for the community. The hard work, dedication, long hours and sacrifices made by each editor are to be commended and remembered as you turn the pages and stroll down memory lane for years to come.
