The midnight premiere at the Nacogdoches movie theatre on Thursday, May 3rd was incredibly packed. Comic fans young and old have been waiting for this movie since it was first hinted at the end of Iron Man I (2008) when Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is introduced to Nick Furry (Samuel L. Jackson). If that hint was too subtle for some, there was a more blatant hint at the end of The Incredible Hulk (2008) when Tony Stark says, “We’re putting a team together.”
It became more and more clear that an Avengers movie was in the works. Iron Man II (2010) introduced Black Widow (Scarlett Johanson) and showed Thor’s hammer at the very end. The movies Thor and Captain America hit theaters in 2011 to complete the series of background movies of each Avenger. Captain America came to theaters after Thor and the full title of the movie was: Captain America: The First Avenger. Laying to rest any final doubts that an Avenger movie was going to be created.
This movie is so incredibly big for many reasons. These are comic book heroes that America has grown up with. They have action figures, clothing, and maybe even bed sheets with these heroes on them. In addition, each of the movies leading up to the Avengers has had a star-studded cast. Iron Man I with Robery Downey Jr., Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges, and Gwenth Paltro. The Incredible Hulk with Edward Norton and Liv Tyler. Iron Man II bringing in Scarlett Johanson and Samuel L. Jackson. Thor with Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Anthony Hopkins. Lastly, Captain America: The First Avenger with Chris Evans.
Social networks have been increasingly dominated by hype for this movie. The time has come at last to see if it can live of to the height. Avengers have assembled!
